This contest is open to all Canadians, but since Hype Hair Studio is in Vancouver, you will have to find your own way if you’re from out of town! Winner has 48 hours to respond. Still need a little convincing to check out Hype Hair Studio? Well, how about a complimentary Cut & Colour valued at up to $200?! Hype Hair Studio and the Socialettes have kindly offered this amazing service to one lucky Cosmetic Proof reader! I saw clients from 20 to 65 years of age when I was there so it just goes to show that this is a studio that is well-liked by people of all ages. It is such a laidback atmosphere, but really cool and happening at the same time. The whole process took about 3 hours and I had tea, water, magazines and some good conversation to make it all seem like no time at all so I will definitely be going back and would totally recommend Hype Hair Studio to everyone. As this was my first “colour job”, I had no idea what what really look good one me, but now that I’m more comfortable, I could see myself going lighter or maybe even throwing in some lavender streaks! was my stylist and she did a wonderful job answering my questions and putting me at ease whenever I seemed apprehensive about the procedure. Now that I’ve washed my hair a few times, the colour has gotten lighter as seen here and here. This picture was taken just a few hours after I got back from the salon which shows the ombre being quite subtle. The station where all the magic happened! I love how Hype Hair has an industrial and artsy feel with the one accent wall and exposed piping on the ceiling. Located on West 4th in Kitsilano, Hype Hair Studio is all windows with plenty of natural light. The studio was absolutely buzzing with activity and I couldn’t help but get caught up in the excitement. I was greeted relatively quickly, my coat taken and a glass of water offered while I waited. After reading some positive reviews for Hype Hair Salon and seeing them at Xpocity, I took the plunge and decided to enter the world of colour in baby steps by getting ombred(balayaged?)! I swore to myself that I would not get my hair coloured until I start going gray, but at 31 it hasn’t happened yet, and I have been anxious to try something new. In 2021, Lia Dias, owner of The Girl Cave LA beauty supply store chain, purchased the magazine for an undisclosed sum.Two weeks ago, I booked my very first appointment to get my hair coloured. In 2013, Hype Hair was acquired by Uptown Ventures and was later sold in 2017 to a private company. The section on hairstyles of celebrities caught the attention of publisher Scott Figman who agreed a magazine featuring hairstyles should be published.Ī few years later, Adrienne Moore was named editor-in-chief, serving more than 20 years before being promoted to publisher. Hype Hair was founded in 1992, led by editor-in-chief Belinda Trotter who created the concept and many of the features that are still included in the magazine while working as editor-in-chief for 2 Hype fanzine under the Word Up! publication house. The magazine is published nine times per year. There is also an official website which claims to be “The number one source for Black hair, style and beauty news.” It was formerly published on a monthly basis. It also features interviews and profiles on celebrities from the music, TV and movie world. The magazine features articles and photographs on hairstyles and beauty products for Black women. Hype Hair is one of the longest-running hair and beauty publications with a daily news site focused on African-American hair, style and beauty.
